Show MOTHER JONES IN FIGHTING SPIRIT Denver, March 16 That she was deported from Trinidad, that she never nev-er asked to see the governor, that she was accompanied to Denver by military officers, taken to a hotel and was not told whether she had been released, that she expects to return to the strike zone soon, was the substance of a statement mado today by "Mother" Mary Jones, noted strike leader, who has been a military mili-tary prisoner at San Rafael's hospital hospi-tal in Trinidad since January V2. Her statement was given to a group of newspaper men at the conclusion of a conference with Horaco N. Hawkins, Haw-kins, attorney for the United Mine Workers of America. Immediately thereafter she left for the state house to call upon Governor E. M. Amnions. General Chase stated that "Mother" "Moth-er" Jones vill be rearcsted when she returns to Trinidad. "Mother" Jones was put on an Atchison. Topeka & Santa Fe train last night arriving in Denver early today. She was accompanied by Colonel Colo-nel W. A. Davis of the Colorado National Na-tional Guard. At 11:30 the appeal in the "Mother" "Moth-er" Jones ha" ?as corpus case hau not been filed in the state supreme court. State Bought Ticket. "Mother" Jones declared that the state bought tho ticket on which she came to Denver. She declared thut she intended returning to Trinidad to demand her mail, explaining that no mail had been delivered to her during her detention. She stated that she had received considerate treatment treat-ment at the hospital, but had suffered suf-fered some from the confinement. It was explained by Mr. Hawkins that papers had been prepared to present the appeal in the habeas corpus cor-pus case to the supreme court but that no action would be taken today in view of "Mother" Jones' presence in Denver. oo ' |
