Show DOGS ARE NECESSARY TO WARD OFF BURGLARS Dogs came In for a good share of consideration by the city board of comm ssioners this morning, the entire en-tire question being referred to the superintendent of public safety for investigation in-vestigation A number of residents of the city in th vicinity of Douglas avenue und Fourth street, and Mrs M. True at Pacific avenue and Twenty second street, petitioned the board to permit per-mit them to keep watch dogs to pro tect their families and property. The requesl is made on the theory that the city is not patrolled by policemen police-men In those localities and that dogs are the only safeguards against burglary, burg-lary, theft and other depredations. Sin; Nellie McDonald requested thai she be permitted to keep a dog without paying a tax. She says she cannot afford to pay a license for keeping her dog and yet she needs the canine On the recommendation of Mayor A G Fell, the petition for water main extension on Grant avenue, between be-tween Fifteenth and Seventeenth streets was granted. The request of Commissioner Flyg-are. Flyg-are. that the board purchase an ft'i-tomol.ih' ft'i-tomol.ih' for the use of the commissioners com-missioners and the engineering and street departments, was referred to the committee of the whole. Mr. Plygare represented that, because of the growth of the city, much territory terri-tory has to be covered by the engineering engi-neering and street departments and that an automobile would be an economic conveyance. On the recommendation of Engineer Engi-neer Washington Jenkins and approved ap-proved by Commissioner Flygare, the salary of Miss Inez Ingebretsen, clerk In the engineering department was increased from $6 to $75 a month. The petition of F. A Schwartz, for the transfer of his plumbing license to the Utah Plumbing company, was denied on the grounds that such licensee li-censee not transferable.
