Show CHEN'S IID IS SCCOIfllED The Children's Aid society at a special spe-cial meeting yesterday afternoon elected the following officers to serve for the ensuing year: Mrs. .7. M. Canse, president; Mrs. Archie Bowman, Bow-man, vice-president, Kate Carnahan, necretary and Mrs. John Culley, treasurer. treas-urer. The retiring officers were Mrs. Ed. Bichsel, Mrs. H. M. Barrows. Mrs. Archie Bowman and Mrs. J. M. Canse. The metting was held at the home of Mrs, Ed Bichsel, 71S Twenty-fifth street and in addition to the election of officers the report of the society for the past year was read by the retiring secretary, Mrs Archie Bow-man. Bow-man. The report, in part, follows: "Thirty-two families have been visited. vis-ited. Eighteen children varying in ages from seven months, to 13 years, have been taken charge of by" the society, so-ciety, and placed In temporary homes, where they have been kept for periods of from one week to five months' time. A great proportion of these children have been taken to permanent homes when removed from the temporary ones and at Christmas 40 children were cared for. . j "Not only have the societies numerous nu-merous wards been supplied with food and clothing:, but they have been ffiven medical attention, have had dentistry work done, and on? child was operated on for adenoids and had his tonsils removed. "One boy, who underwent a very serious and painful operation for club-feet club-feet while a charge of the society, last year, was furnished with a bicycle bi-cycle when his physician said It was necessary to strengthen and straighten straight-en his limbs, and he is n6w working evory day, as strong and straight as his many brothers. A little family of orphans is being cared for by their frail, over-worked sister. To make things a little better for them the society has had their washing done for them all winter. "A baby 7 months old was brought to the society by the juvenile court and remained in its care from June until the middle of October. In the beginning of February the babe's mother brought back the child and begged the societv to assume the care of It again, and the little fellow Is still in the home provided by the sot clety. "A deserted mother was taken to the Crlttenton home when a third little one was comlnc and there her two little boys were" fitted out with clothing and cared for till the mother was able to care for them again. Her gratitude was one of th IhingB which makes this work worth while Another An-other little fellow was cared for while his mother was at th Dee hoBpital for confinement. "Two children were committed to the care of the society by the judge of the Third district court, they were clothed and cared for ft month then accompanied bv one of our members, were sent to Topeka, Kansas, where they have property held In trust for them. Two other children were similarly sim-ilarly clothed and cared for, then sent to a home In Idaho accompanied by another member. "Two beautiful children, a boy 4 and a girl 7, their mother on the stage, the father in jail, were taken from a drunken grandfather and placed in the society's care on the Thirty-first of January and are still being cared for. "A baby girl was only kept one week when it was adopted into a splendid home. "While our activities have extended over a broad field, we feel that rescuing res-cuing eight destitute, dependent children chil-dren and placing them in homes where they are being tenderly watched watch-ed over, and are being reared in a manner which, we have reason to hope, will make them moral, industrious, indust-rious, self-supporting citizens, has been our greatest achievement." , In addition to her written report, ' Mrs. Bowman stated that the society had receded willing support in many cases from the city commissioners and a number of local physicians, and expressed the thanks of the society to them In a general way. |
