Show MAGGIE JONES IS NOT GUILTY Magie Jones, the negress. charged with grand larceny was acquitted by the jury sitting on her case in Judge Harris' court yesterday. The decision of the jury lead Judge Harris to declare de-clare that he could not understand how much a verdict could be arrived at in the face of the evidence intro duced Foreman A. T. Hestmark of the jury replied to the criticism b savin g that the Jury had taken two bailots on the evidence after retiring to the jury room, the first ballot standing seven to one for acquittal and the second ballot unanimously favoring acquittal of the prisoner. The jury was out but 15 minute. Some of the iurvmen. outside of the court room, stated that In thr-minds thr-minds of the Jurymen no theft had been proved and that there was nothing tohow that the woman ever had the money In question In her possession A pocket book was found In the yard where Bostum and the defendant de-fendant had been scuffling, containing $145 in cash, but the evidence was stronger that it had been lost in the melee than that it was stolen. |
