It Is said that In the warmer sections of country peoplo having hookworm become so lazy that they oftentimes will not exert themselves them-selves to take medicine. The doctors state that the disease m)y continue for years or for only a few months, sometimes terminating fatally In a short time. It prevails in the coal mines of the tropics and is quite extensive In the southern states. The hookworm was discovered in Milan in 1S3S by Dublnl. It Is a worm about a half Inch in length, having a thread-like bodj with a conical shaped head and a large bell-shaped bell-shaped mouth, which is surrounded by a horny capsule. The mouth contains con-tains four hook-like teeth, vertical!) situated and two smaller vertical teeth on the dorsal side by which the worm fixes itself to the mucuous membrane. It lives In the Intestines. The worm is h.itched from eggs usually deposited in muddy water in a warm climate, no eggs ever being hatched in the intestines. The larvae develop into worms after being taken into the bod-, which occurs through the use of the Infected water The disease is also transmitted through-contact through-contact with the larvae with the hands or feet and it is said that many cases develop in the tropical countries coun-tries because so many people do not vear shoes at all times of the year The disease causes nausea, sluggishness, sluggish-ness, loss of appetite and general depression, de-pression, mentally and physically Dr Robinson states that a nineteen-yenr-old young man of the Shuman family appears to be not more than twelve years old. Every effort will be put forth by tho county officers to eradicate the disease from the family and it is expected ex-pected that Dr. Beatty. president of the state board of health, will visit Ogden today or tomorrow to investigate investi-gate the case.
