Show WILSON IS FOR THE COMMON PEOPLE. The Los Angeles Tribune pays a high tribute to President-elect Wilson, Wil-son, taking as the basis for Its compliment com-pliment the article In the February World's Work on "Free .Men Need No Guardians, written by our uew President, in which Hamilton is described de-scribed ar, a great man but not a great American, as be was antagonistic antagonis-tic to a free democracy and a friend of plutocracy In this article Wilson declared. The masters of the government gov-ernment of the United States are the combined capitalists and manufacturers manufactur-ers of the United Slate? He traced their domination over the affairs- of government through all the records of congress. Sarcastically referring to them as "the benevolent guardians, the kind hearted trustees who hav taken the troubles of government or! our hands.'' he declared that anybody any-body of ordinary intelligence was competent to write out a list of them He says in terms The government govern-ment of the I nited States is al pre, nt a foster child of the special interests in-terests It is not allowed to have a will of its own " He represents these Interests as declaring that prosperity prosper-ity is lodged m them, and he declares without nuempiing lo soften the asperity as-perity of hi? speech "The govern mem of tho United States In recent vears has not been administered by the common people of the United States. Good language from a Presidentelect," President-elect," declares the Tribune. It falls with gratification upon ears not cr diuanly attuned lo such presidential chords We have been used to a striking dissimilarity in the declarations declara-tions of candidates for the presidency before and after election. It Is well known that this paper opposed Governor Gov-ernor Wilson's candidacy. It is therefore there-fore with special pleasure and mich particularity of expression that the Tribune records Its Judgment that Goernor Wilson Is making good. Should he adhere to the course he has outlined we doubt not thai many of our Democratic contemporaries who favored his election will be as bluer In their hostility to his presidential policies as they were enthusiastic In their support of him as a candidate " oo |
