AUDITOR OF STATE ARRESTED indianapolis ind sept H detectives from tho indianapolis police do apartment part ment at this morning went to the home of cx auditor ot state D lck with the intention ot taking him to the central station to have served on him a warrant issued by tha county prosecutor on account of reasons not at this time biear they concluded not to bring him to the central station but will remain on guard at his homo and today ho will be brought in and served ath a warrant issued by the county prosecutor charging embezzlement indianapolis ind sent K las three demands for his resignation which was not forthcoming at noon today governor J prank issued an order i taking cognizance of a va cancy in the office of the auditor of state at the same time appointing warren bilger of wabash to succeed dails E sherrick who was in effect summarily removed later la the day air sherrick forwarded his resignation to the governor which was immediately accepted upon receipt of mr belgers Bil gers acceptance he was notified to arrange for his bond as eon as possible in order that he might take charge of the office at once this was done and mr bilger will become auditor of state to morrow morning in the order which resulted in the virtual removal of sherrick gov hanley charged that the auditor had been guilty of A plain and inexcusable violation of the law and a gross betrayal of a public trust in investing and loaning funds belonging to the state to the amount of this sum the governor alleges was misused having been invested for purposes no arrests have been made but at a conference tonight between gov han ley and charles benedict prosecuting attorney for marion county the chief executive laid before the prosecuting attorney certain evidence bearing on the case wallard S secretary and treasurer 0 J C murry company hardwood lumber dealers who Is mentioned in the governors statement denied that the indebtedness of J H murray and company to the auditor of state was in any way irregular at 3 sherrick sent his resignation to gov hanley who accepted it and entered an order appointing warren of wabash to the of fice of state auditor was appointed by telegraph david F bond on file in the secretary of states office is for and was furnished by the american surety company breslau prussia sept 14 the child of a bargeman choso whoso boat had arrived here from the lower oder was found to be ill with cholera on board the barge today
