Mrs. Mariana Aasaf, tho only survivor of a party of ten Syrians that sailed on the Titanic, Ti-tanic, reached her homo in Ottawa early today. Mrs Aasaf told friends hero that she saw several steerage passengers attempt to rush the lifeboats life-boats and that Captain Smith shot down several of tho'm. "Not all the women who desired to get into the boats wero rescued," continued Mrs. Aasaf. "Three cousins of mlno pleaded plead-ed for a seat, but were refused. "The steerage pabsengors wero all in bed whon the fahip struck the Iceberg Ice-berg and thero was not much fear of danger. Wo wero told all was right. Suddenly all felt a fear as tho Bhlp stopped and then thero was a panic; everybody tried to rush on deck. As wc rushed for the boats wc encountered tho officers and there the shots were fired, some of my companions compan-ions being shot dead. Those drivon back never had a chance to escape J rushed up to the first cabin passengers' passen-gers' deck and knew nothing more of my comrades' fate." |
