Show OBSERVE EASTER AT I. EJHURCH Tho Methodist church was adorned with potted plants and California III-les III-les and melodious with the song birds and children at the Easter services yesterday. The big featurp of the morning bervlec was tho baptism of two little ones and twenty boys and girls and the reception of thlrty-livo new members mem-bers into the church. The Easter sermon ser-mon of the pastor emphasized the empty grave of Christ as a positive proof of the resurrection, the divinity of Christ and the ultimate triumph of Christianity. The Easter offering for foreign missions mis-sions reached $128. In the evening tho church was crowded at the anniversary exercises of tho Sunday school and praise service serv-ice of tho choir. Theprimary department depart-ment marched up the alslo of the au-ditorium au-ditorium to tho inspiring strains' of "Onward, Christian SoldlcTfi."- Tho an-them, an-them, "They Have Taken Away My Lord," was given by the 'choir and was followed by congregational eln-jimr of tho hjmn, "1 Want You to Know ' Him," in which tho Sunday school led. The solo, "lie Is Rlaon," was .given by Miss Uolhcrg, following the evening and artcr the Bible reading "by (ho pastor, Miss Rosamond Laird with M'iss Parmley as Violin accom- j panist, snug'.'Chrlst Is Rhen." Tho Indies' quartette, composed of Misses Nelson and Laird, sopranos, and Misses Holberg and Rnrney. altos, rendered the beautiful "One Sweetly Solemn Thought" The soncs and recitations rec-itations given by tj:p primary dopurt-s ment of 'the Sunday school, in chaige;s of Miss Addle Rou'se, -wcro especially1 pleasing to tho congregation, If ono Is to judge by the smiles of approal and the applause that greeted the little lit-tle ones The solo by Dorothy Long and tho duet by Mary Fisher and Catherine Cath-erine Smith won especial applause Following the primary exercises the anthem, "Jesus Christ the King of Glory," was effectively sung by the choir. Tho pastor, Rev Frederick Vinlng Fisher's brlof Easter address dealt with the lesurrectlon and the hope we have because of IL The singing of a good-bye song by the children brought the program to a close. Tho singing of the little ones showed the result of careful training on the part of the teachers and was In perfect time and harmony, while the chorus and solo work of the choir and leader, Miss Nelson, was excellent. |
