Show MEWS NOTES Of WBElJWffly The Weber Academy Acorn staff, has gathered nearly all of the ma- terial for the souvenir edition of that paper. This edition will be one of the best ever put forth by any school in Utah. Last Monday afternoon, W. H. Cowles, a vetoran of the Ciyll war, visited tho school and spoke to one of the history classes. He told many In- & teresting and oxciting incidents of the Civil war, urging the students, however, to do all In tholr power to preserve peace He was listened to attentive at-tentive b tho students. Dr John T Mnller, editor of tho Character Builder and president of tho Human Culture soclotj, was a visitor vis-itor at thp school on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday On Monday morning he spoke to tho student body In devotional devo-tional on principles character building build-ing On Tuesday he spoko to the boys of the school on "Idoals of 20th Century Cen-tury Manhood " His talk was plain and timely and much appreciated by the boys Ho encouraged all to lead clean upright, moral lives He condemned con-demned in strongest language the "quacks" who are fleecing and at the same time Injuring misguided and unfortunate young men. During the samo nour in which Dr Muller spoke to the boys, Citv Phvsl-cian Phvsl-cian Ries addressed the girls. She, too, spoke plalnl and earnestly of evils In our own community and how they may be avoided Much good will result re-sult from her talk. On Thursday and Friday, H. H. Cummings, general superintendent of church schools, wa$ a visitor at the Academy. After inspecting the work In every department and Interviewing the various teachers, he expressed himself as being well pleased with the work of the school " In his address to the student body ho expressed himself as being determined to make the Academy Becond to none of the church schools It can plainly be seen from the superintendent's talk that blgcer appropriations, Increased equipment and a new gymnasium are the things that are coming in thG near future. nn |
