Show THOROUGHBREDS READY jOR MEET With 250 thoroughbreds representing represent-ing some of the best racing stables in tho West here to participate in the 15 days' racing meet, beginning May 1, the Ogden Jockey club oxpects to furnish fur-nish the loverB of "tho sport of kingB" some of tho best racing cards ever Feen at the Fair grounds track. Manager J. H Carson says that additional ad-ditional horses aro arriving daily. Many of the horsemen who will be here with their strings of racers Were here at former meets. Quarters for 300 horses have been provided at the race track, and It now looks like every ev-ery available stall will bo utilized. Although Al-though the opening of the spring meet Ib ten dnvs off. there are now 125 horses stabled at the fair grounds. Reservations for this many more have been engaged. Telegrams wore received re-ceived yesterday by Manager Carson and hla associates, B. E. West and M J. West announcing the shipment of' 10 carloads of horses from Oakland, ' California, and two moro carloads from Juarez. The management man-agement announced tho following list of officials for tho May meet, all of whom aro known to' horsemen of tho Weal Frank St J Skinner, officiating officiat-ing judge and secretary. P J. Hennessey, Hen-nessey, associate Judge, and "Morcllo Jim" Hcaly, starter. Word was received yesterday from George H. Bassett, who has been wintering his string of sovea thoroughbreds thor-oughbreds in Salt Lako City, that he will bo hero with his horse for the opening of the meet. The well-known Keene stable- ot California will also be represented. The manngement has decided to hold six races dally during the meet, rain or bhlne Tho purses have not yet been decided upon, but horsemen have been assured that they will bo liberal and satisfactory. |
