Show FSFTEEMAY SENTENCE : FORHUNT "Only part guilty," was tho plea entered en-tered in polico court this morning by Tom Hunt, charged with petit larceny, the complaint reading that he had stolon a mirror and puree from the Woodmansee block. ' A plea of not guilty was entered by the court clerk In Hunt's behalf and the case was tried. Witnesses pro- ' duccd by the city swore that Hunt had 1 been in tho rooms In tho Woodmansee J building occupied by Guy Nash and, Immediately after the defendant had left the apartments, a mirror and pufse were found to bo missing. On the stand Hunt testified to having hav-ing entered the Nash rooms and ad- J mltted that he had. stolen the mirror. He Insisted, howover, that he had not taken the purse. ( "I was drunk at the time," said Hunt, "and I Just foolishly took the mirror. I don't know 'what I did with It." "Don't you think you might have Just foolishly taken the purse, too?" I asked tho Judge. "No, sir; I did not," insisted the prisoner in the witness chair. "Well, I think that vou did." rejoined re-joined the court, "and I'fl Just give y6u fifteen days at hard labor. You have been before mo before and I have let you go. A few days on tho rock pl'lo j may help reform you." ' Hunt Is an old offender but has been fortunato in escaping punishment for j the petty offenses of which he has been charged. " ' |
