Show FOREST DISTRICT FOUR IS THE LARGEST. H District Forester E. A. Sherman reports that during the fiscal H year which is now rapidly drawing to a close the national forest H area within district No. 4 has increased by a total of 904.783 acres. H At the beginning of the fiscal .year, July 1. 1Q10, the 'forest area H within the thirty-two forests then included in district No. 4 was B , 28,986.254 acres. During the year the boundaries have been ef- H fected by thirteen presidential proclamations, two executive orders H and one act of congress. Eliminations amounting to 224.748 acres H j haye been made and additions have added an area of 634,043 acres H I to the forests, resulting in a net gain of 409,295 acres. Two trans- H fers from District No. 1 with headquarters at Missoula and one H transfer from District No. 5 with headquarters at San Francisco B have added a total of 194,128 acres to this district. The district H area was further increased in Bize by the creation of the Santa Rosa H national forest, with an area of 301,360 acres. At the close of the M fiscal year there are now in District No. 4 thirty-three national for- H csts administered from the Ogden headquarters, comprising a gross H area of 29,891,037 acres. Excepting the forest area of Alaska Dis- M i trict 4 is by far the largest district in point of area of any of the M six into which the national forests are divided. |
