Show TIE TIMBER FOR ONION PACIFIC Nils B, Eckbo, assistant forester of the Uinta Nationnl Forest Is in Ogden Og-den conferring with District Forester Forest-er E. A. Sherman relative to a detailed de-tailed examination of the tio timber on the north slope of tho Uinta forest. for-est. Mr. Eckbo, accompanied by Lumberman Day Seerey, will leave Ogden Monday for Evanston, Wyoming, Wyom-ing, whero they twlll meet a crew of forest rangerst Fram Evanston they will make their way by wagon Into the timber belt at the head of Black's Fork of the Greou river. The object of the examination Is to determine de-termine the number of railroad ties on this creek which are accessible to the Union Pacific and Oregon Short Lino railroads. In view of the fact that the Union Pacific is to double track Its road from Ogden eastward, it is believed that there will h,o no difficulty in disposing dis-posing of a large quantity of tie timber tim-ber to the railroad people, if It can bo shown that tho timber is accessible access-ible to the road. It is said that there is a great deal of timber in the Uinta forest, particularly at the heads of Smith's Fork, Black's Fork and Bear rivor. A complete exnmlnntlon of the timber in these sections has never been made but It is roughly estimated estimat-ed that there are several million feet of It likely enough to supply the Union Un-ion Pacific with enough ties for the entire length of the proposed double track. The examination will be pushed as rapidly as possible in order that those interested In supplying the railroad companies with ties may be in a position po-sition to enter into a salo with the forest service at nn early date. ' Mr Eckbo will look after the cruls, Ing of the timber and Mr. Seerey will make a thorough, examination as to the feasibility of logging the tiesand driving them to points on the union Pacific or Oregon Short Lino roads for use. Mr. Seeroy is one of tho oldest lumbermen of the forost service, ser-vice, having folowed the lumbar business busi-ness all his life. He has wide experience, ex-perience, in logging ftnd stream driving driv-ing In Minnesota and Is considered an expert on logging questions. When the examination is completed, it is probable that a large block of this timber will be placed upon tho rnri r n'nrirmLMijjLL. rn "i n n r.i ' 'bcz market for salo Under the lav, sales of this slzo are required to be open to bids for thirty tdays before the contract is awarded.
