Show ONCE PROMINENT, HE DIES IN POVERTY San Francisco, Cal. March G. John C. Pelton, a native of Boston and a pioneer educator of California, died In poverty here yesterday. He was born January 27, 1S36. Mr. Pelton, after teaching in Boston Bos-ton for several years, came to San Francisco in 1849 and established the first freo public school on the Pacific Pa-cific coast at his own expense. Among his pupils In tho early days was Geo. X-J?.rlcins. J Inlted. Sjqtus senator frjjm this state Ho also established the first reformatory in California.
