H Ogden, June 19. Appearing on behalf of residents i! along-North Lincoln avenue to object to the proposed open- M1'' ing ofi the street from! Ogden river to Second street K U. , fexdl&gBT, a property owner, charged Mayor William m Qmmaxxn in. open council tonight -with having made use of H; , t&qpKnton and fraud to gam the signatures of H i Tfflqprty folders In support of the movement. .l ffwSnngep declared that Mayor Glasmann had person- l r am, caflcd Upon himself and other property holders and M , Sa-tham that land dedioated by them for the opening would . J pKM. for by the city and that no improvement assess- j jnenfrW)xiWbeTOado against them. Re said that Glasmann ; had actually dragged him to a table, placed a pen in his H' hand-and, byr misrepresentation, had sought to gain his sig- ' nature. H "With the- following corrections, the above may stand as cor- Hj r&ett H First. Mr. Trullinger never made the Charge as above pub- H ' lished. H Second. The mayor never called on Mr. Trull inger for any pur- H pose -whatever. H Third. The mayor never called on any other property holders H in the interest of Lincoln avenue or any other street. H Fourth. The mayor never made any promise to Mr. Trullinger H or any other person in reference to the opening of Lincoln avenue. H Fifth. 'The mayor never promised Mr. Trullinger that he would, H or would not, have to pay for the opening of the street. H j Sixth. That the mavor never dragged Mr. Trullinger. or any Hb other person, to a table to sign any document, neither did the mayor 1 misrepresent anything. p Seventh. The mayor never told Mr. Trullinger that the city ti "would pay for any land dedicated for streets. Hf "With the seven corrections, the article appearing in the ITerald- H Republican may pass as fairly truthful. H The facts arc that Mr. Trullinger. and seven or eight others, 11 called on the city council several weeks ago, to discuss the open- Hfj ing of Lincoln avenue and, on motion of a Councilman, the gentle- HJf men were requested to go to the mayor's office and discuss the mat- V ter with the mayor. They did so, and the mayor said : J "Gentlemen, there arc two ways to open a street, ancl one way jf is for you people simply to give the street to Ogden by deed or dedication, and no one payB or receives any money. The second H j "way is where the city condemns the property and the abutter is paid U or the land taken, assessing the damage done in opening the jl street to tho abutters." B' The maypr says that any person charging the mayor with hav- H'l ing: represented any other plan for opening Lincoln avenue is deviat- M ing from the truth. , |
