Show J tVILU OLOSINQ THE 8ALOON8 1 i KILL OUR CITY. iff Tho stock argument of tho aupporl u.J J i r of the saloon la, that it will ruin Hli ' I oar twn tboosands of people win Mil 1 , and It "will prevent thoHnaod of ii , people from coming here " Xow let us look that proposition squarely In the face If the absence of saloonB will kill our town and will keep people peo-ple from coming west in search of homes, why Is not the saloon adver-tibed adver-tibed as an Inducement to homeseek-ors? homeseek-ors? If Ogden City, the Wober Club, or tho Chamber of Commerce were getting out a booklet to advertise the advantages of our City, they would, and have, given the number of our factories, our creameries, our can nerleB, manufactures, etc Did our City, or either of these commercial apsociatlons, forget that our fifty-two saloons were an asset7 Or, in sending send-ing out the advertising matter did iliey not fight shy of saying anything about the saloons? They told of our beautiful beau-tiful school houses, of our numerous churches, but nover a word did they say about our fifty-two saloons, and why? Because they knew full well that a saloon is a debit to any City, not an asset, and can never be placed on the credit side. They knew If they advertised that we had fifty-two saloons sa-loons and advertised the amount of money that passed over tho saloon bar each year, Instead of its attracting attract-ing home seekers it would drive them away. If we are mistaken, we ask some of these business men who are frightened fright-ened to death for fear prohibition will keep people from coming here to live, to wire the Union Pacific Officials, Of-ficials, to not neglect to give the fact In bold letters, in the new booklet thov are getting out advertising Ogden. Og-den. that WE HAVE FIFTY-TWO SALOONS, SA-LOONS, ONE MILLION DOLLARS 18 SPENT EVERY rYEAR OVER THE SALOON BAR, and, so that you may not. think we are trying to give you the worst of It. you may add, the CITY RECEIVES SIXTY-FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS EACH YEAR FROM THE SALOONS. Will some business man step to the front and agree to father such a tolegrara7 What would the railway officials think of you' Then what ought you to think of yourself for advancing such an argument ar-gument here at home, whon It would be the laBt thing you would think of telling or admitting, if you could help it, if you were In the east drumming up home seekers Out upon such argument. ar-gument. It is not made with sincerity, by any sensible man. |
