Show Ranger Heroes of Dieppe Raid : J , - ; t r ' , - ; ; .- fct,..iMw , , ... ... - ...,.. .. , .j, , Back in London, four United States Rangers (commandos) talk over their thrilling experiences during the Commando Raid on Dieppe last week. Second from left is Staff Srgeant Kenneth Stempson, 23, of Russell, Minnesota, who commanded a 12-man group, only Hve of which returned from the raid. Stempson said, "My group of 12 was assigned to knock out the pill boxes and clear the way for the demolition men to get their (coastal battery.) We silenced the pill boxes." At left is Corporal William Wil-liam Brady, 22, Grand Forks, North Dakota, one of the group who said, "I was one of the first to get ashore." Brady told how one of the buddies, Corporal Franklin Coons, (second from right) of Sioux City, Iowa, got two of the snipers that were taking pot shots at the group. At right is Sergeant Alex Szima, 22, Dayton, Day-ton, Ohio, who told reporters, "Our job was to go to a ravine and demolish sme German mines. We did that." |
