Show SCHOOL CHILDREN URGED TO HELP WITH XMAS SEAL SALES Assistance of the schools in making mak-ing the Christmas Seal Sale of the Utah Public Health association successful suc-cessful is urged by Dr. C. N. Jensen, Jen-sen, state superintendent of public instruction, in a letter sent yesterday yester-day to school superintendents of the state. Dr. Jensen praised the work being done by the association, which he says has done much to raise the general tone of health in the state and among school students. The letter follows: "The Christmas season is fast approaching ap-proaching and our minds are naturally natur-ally turned into channels of service. ser-vice. This wonderful season bringj into the lives of the children incidents inci-dents that lead to selfishness, or thac lead to the spirit of the great master. mas-ter. 'It is better to give han to receive.' re-ceive.' While our school work Is always al-ways concerned win social efficieno, there are occasions when opportunity opportun-ity affords for special emphasis in this direction. At this particular time the Utah Public Health association associa-tion gives that opportunity. "As superintendent, you are well acquainted with the modern health crusade movement, which resluts in the inculcation of health habits. This movement is fostered by the Utah Public Health association, as is also that of the clean school contest, m which a number of our districts this year have again entered. The past year the association has rendered valuable service in their lectures on dlisease prevention and sanitation. It has also assisted in the maintenance of health nurses. "All these efforts and projects demand de-mand the outlay of considerable money. The Utah Public Health association as-sociation maintains itself only by means of the moneys raised from the sale of the penny Christmas Seal Other than 5 per cent for the purchase pur-chase of Christmas Seals and for administrative ad-ministrative purposes, the money is returned to us in iealth work. Any support we render comes back to us in better health to our patrons anil school childiren. The prevention of many diseases is accomplished and much suffering is alleviated. The general tone of health in the state is raised. In my judgment, the schools are fortunate to have the service which the association is able to give. We feel that this is particularly true in view of the fact that he schools are deprived of he services of a state school health director. It occurs oc-curs to me that we can well afford to do what we can for the success ol tht Christmas Seal Sale. The children chil-dren might very well make individual indivi-dual purchases, and thereby become bigger and better of they understand the purpose of this association and the thought back of the penny Christmas Seal Sale. Can we inculcate incul-cate team work and engender social pride by tneouraging classes to purchase pur-chase the $5 health bond? Let me suggest that you cheerfully cheerful-ly lendl assistance in this worthy matter. Kindle the enthusiasm iu your various schools necessary to obtain ob-tain tangible results." |
