Show OCEAN-TO-OCEAN HIGHWAY SIGNED - ELYRECORD On Sunday last A. L. Nesthie and P. II. Davis arrived in Ely, having completed the signing 0f the Pikes Peak Ocean-toOcean highway from Beaver to Ely, which for the present at least will be its western terminus. The Pikes Peak Ocean-toOcean highway is. a national highway from New York to Frezno, California. For the present the travel over this route rem the east will be routed! over the Lincoln highway from Ely or over the Midland Trail from Ely to Los Angeles. Eventually it is the intent of the Oc?an-to-Ocean highway to be marked from Ely via Tonopah to Bishop and thence almost directly west to Fresno. However, the road from Bishop to Fresno will not be completed for perhaps two years and until that time Ely wMll remain its western terminus. Heretofore the Ocean-to-Oc.eati highway was routed to Salt Lake City, which for sevtral years was its terminus, but in order to secure a shorter and better route, the highway high-way is now markedi through central Utah and on west to Ely, which will not only save a considerable amount of mileage to its patrons, but will also give them a much more scenic route and withal a better road. The Ocean-to-Ocean highway has been carrying a large amount of travel through the slates for a number num-ber of years and as it lies south of the Lincoln highway and north of the Old Trails route, it promises in the near future to develop into one of the principal transcontinental routes. It is decidedly tht most scenic scen-ic route across the continent, as It passes, through central Coloradb and also central Utah and enters Nevada at the famous Lehman's cave, which in a few years will be visited by thousands of tourists every season. From Ely west tourists will have an opportunity t0 pass through central cen-tral or southern Nevada, and If they desire from Tonopah they can visit YosMiiite via Tioga pass, or continue on to Bishop and to Los Angtles through one of the most Interesting sections of southern California. -Ely Record. |
