Show MONEY IN URUGUAY' WORTH MORE THAN IN AMERICA Uruguay, the smallest country in South America, has a coast of 120 miles, and has become a great summer sum-mer resort. This is one countrj where the money is worth mort than the American dollar. They have a gold standard but no gold was coined, and no bullion is carried by the state. Their bonds often sell above par. Montevidio, the capital, is a city of 400,000, and is modern in every respect. Besides the present pres-ent excellent hotels, another one, costing ?2,000,000, is under construction. con-struction. Uruguayans do not claim to be of Spanish descent, but Uru-guyan. Uru-guyan. In fact, they are different from all others. They are a type by themselves. There are many blondes, very light in color. Uruguay Uru-guay is prosperous, independent and exceedingly friendly to the United States. Brazil, largest of South American countries, is much larger than the United States, exclusive of Alaska, and has a population of 32,000,000. The people are a mixed race. They have followed what might be termed term-ed the line of least resistance. But if you ask a true Brazilian his nationality, na-tionality, whether he is Portugese or Spanish, he will always say Brazilian. This country excels all others in ariety of physical characteristics, t has high lands, coast lands and a nass of mountains, which produce :reat variations of climate. The Vmazon River, the largest in the vorld, runs across Brazil, producing navigation for a distance of 2,300 miles, and forming the greatest basin in the world. This area is larger than that formed by the Mississippi, Mis-sissippi, Missouri, Danube and Nile all combined. Out of fifty-five of the largest rivers in the world, thirty-three are in Brazil. The two principal cities are Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo, the first being the capital and located on the finest harbor in the world. It is without doubt the most beautiful city in the world with respect to its natural advantages. The drive along the sea and up hill and down dale over the mountains is second to none on earth. Mountain peaks too numerous num-erous to mention leave in the mind of the visitor that a variety of scenery exists in Rio de Janeiro no other city can boast. Sao Paulo is a real business city. It is in the heart of a section that produces sixty per cent of all the coffee of the world. Its citizens are of high class. The climate is excellent, excel-lent, and nearby waterfalls provide cheap power. ' It may be said that the state and city of Sao Paulo is j the richest of all and the opportunity opportuni-ty for their growth is far beyond i the conception of the ordinary vis-! vis-! itor. ! |
