Show Oil Well Down 650 Feet; In Blue Shale; Indications Good Work on the Walter James well No. 1 is progressing as rapidly as can be expected. The second strata of water sand was encountered at 39 6 feet and was eight feet thick. From that point down to the present pres-ent depth the bit has been penetrating penetrat-ing a soft formation, mostly a variety varie-ty of colors of shales and clays. At the present time the formation is a dark blue shale which is considered a good indication. The Oil Weekly, published at Houston, Texas, in commenting on the future oil supply, says about Utah: "We have all read much about Utah and the wonderful possibilities that have been opened up through the completion of one or two wells in the Moab section. The geologists tell us that there is little doubt that Utah eventually will be represented rather heavily in the producing column, col-umn, but the physical difficulties in the way of drilling and of moving out the oil are such that Utah will not affect production for a long time to come. "The same thing will apply to New Mexico. Whatever New Mexico's Mexi-co's possibilities are, they will not be developed fully until the oil can be moved out to the market in pipe lines instead of by railroad." Well, if we get the oil we will take a chance on getting it to market. |
