Show CAN'T SUE VETERANS Washington, May 11. One of the bills -passed by the house this week was sponsored and guided through by Representative A. Piatt Andrews, and provides that if the government made overpayment to a man in the service during the war, and there was no evidence of fraud or of guilty knowledge of the overpayment by the veteran, the government shall not attempt to obtain redress by legal steps. Congressman Andrew's opinion is that in practically all such cases the veterans receiving the money considered it their just due, and promptly spent it or disposed of it in some other way. Many of these men would be seriously embarrassed if called upon to repay the government. govern-ment. After Congressman Andrew's lucid explanation of the measure, it was. passed by unanimous vote. |
