Show TAXPAYERS CONVENTION CONVEN-TION WEDNESDAY There will be a tax payers' convention con-vention held here Wednesday, June 2nd, at 2 o'clock in the county court house. Speakers from Salt Lake City will be present and all tax payers are urged to attend this meeting. The following article is taken from the May "Utah Taxpayer:" "Look at the tabulations which point out the growth of taxes on each thousand dollar' valuation in each of the counties. ' Compare the growth in your county with that in your neighboring county. "You will observe that Beaver has more than doubled. It stands nearly near-ly at the head of the list in this process of Inflation just as it docs ttiijiiaueucauy. ivimaru county leads the procession with 105.5 per cent increase. "Take any two adjoining countle-i and compare the tax history for the past ten years. Box Elder has experienced ex-perienced an increase of 59.9 per cent aud the neighboring county, Cache, 61.3 per cent. Why the difference? dif-ference? San Pete has increased the burden upon its taxpayers 74.4 per cent and Sevier, next door, 49.3 per cent. Is that merely a matter of geography or can part of the difference differ-ence be attributed to the class of of fice holders; also to the attitude o; the taxpayers themselves? "Compare San Juan and Grand; Morgan and Rich; Utah and Juab: Weber and Salt Lake. There is a definite reason in each case for the differences presented in this exhibit. It is certain that these increases will not automatically stop. It is also equally certain that they will con tinue unless some restraining ham! is stretched forth. That hand must be the Taxpayers. "If the county taxpayer's associations asso-ciations will Inquire thoroughly as to the contributing causes, in their respective counties, they will soon receive the answer. They will thru discover where the leaks and extravagances extrav-agances have been. - They will then be in a position to assist the publl--officials in putting an end to every unjustifiable expenditure. This thing must be done in a comprehensive, comprehen-sive, businesslike way. An idle protest pro-test is meaningless. The taxpayers must get all the facts and then in a calm, judicious manner seek and apply ap-ply the remedies." Plenver "ji. Press. |
