Show : W U. OF U. NEWS LETTER A collection of 4000 specimens of pre-hlstoric America has been presented pre-sented to the University of Utah by Phillips Academy, Andover, Mass. Arrowheads, pottery, azes, spear heads, knives, boxes, ornaments and hammers are included in the collection. collec-tion. These specimens will Nbe added to the archeaological museum at the University, which already contains valuable and historical material. Professor Andrew Kerr, through whose efforts this latest addition was acquired-,, added much material to the museum through the field work he did for the local University in-the southern part of Utah the past sum-1 sum-1 mer. Professor Levi Young, head of the archeology department at the State University, is soon to begin field work again in excavating ruins and adding material to the museum. Among the new collection for the museum, according to Professor Young, are some very interesting and fine specimens of hammers, which were used for mining as well as 'for warfare, and some beautifully ornamented- knives which the Indians believed be-lieved a symbol of divinity. |
