Show STATE COUNCIL OF DEFENSE Sal". Lake City, Aug. 5, 1918. A conference of the officers of this Council with the Governor was held some time ago at which the formation forma-tion of a cavalry regiment to serve as a National Guard in Utah was discussed. dis-cussed. The Adjutant General was asked to communicate with the' authorities au-thorities at Washington and was told that at present it would be impossible impossi-ble to supply the necessary equipment equip-ment for a cavalry regiment, but thai the national government favored the formation of an infantry regiment which might later be changed into cavalry if conditions warranted. As there is now no National Guard in the State of Utah, it will be necessary nec-essary to form a new organization. Captain Fred Jorgensen has been detailed de-tailed as recruiting officer and will call upon the county council for assistance as-sistance in the near future. W. C. Ebaugh, Sec. |
