Show WAR CAUL CUTS ( COLLEGE ROLLS - . New York, Sept. 16. The patriotic patriot-ic response of young college men to the call of their country to the colors will reduce the enrollment from 10 to 50 per cent, it was estimated today to-day by educators. Many thousands of young men have shouldered guns abandoning their educational course temporarily at least. Fraternities, outing clubs and other oth-er college socities are expected to suffer by reason of the exodus of upper up-per classmen. Athletics, glee clubs, intercollegiate debating socities also will be hard hit, it was stated. Engineer schools will suffer particularly, par-ticularly, their students being in especial es-pecial demand by the government. Some of these will lose a great percentage of their enrolled students Yale looks for a falling off of 33-1-3 per cent. Columbia does not expect ex-pect to lose more than 15 per cent. Western colleges look for a cut of 33 1-3 per cent in senior enrollments and a lesser cut among the lower classes. The universities of Illinois and Minnesota and the smaller institutions in-stitutions of Wisconsin, Indiana and Iowa all expect a considerable falling fall-ing off. |
