Show RAH! RAH! RAH! HIGH SCHOOL! THE apathy apparent concerning the Beaver County High School is a matter to be deplored. This year there is an excellent corps of teachers and the principal is a real man. ' He has ideas of his own and does not take his directions as to what to do and when to do it from any clique, individual or the janitor. The school offers courses that are rare opportunities for the young people of the county fpr continuing contin-uing their education above the grammar gram-mar grades. There are some lines of vocational training, useful and thorough. thor-ough. Now, the fact that there are so few students attending high school thus far this year is not due to the war. Of course' some of the former students of the school have enlisted. But there is no dearth of timber for building a student body for the school if, the available avail-able young people or their parents would only respond to the opportunity offered. There are enough young people peo-ple in the county who are doing nothing . in particular, to fill every class in the school. Boys and girls who are out 1 nearly all night to dances in other sections, sec-tions, of the county and then who lie in bed nearly all next day had far better take up some course of study at the county high school and spend a portion of their spare time mastering the course in domestic science, manual training, telegraphy or some other useful use-ful training. The expense would not be greater than the gasoline and auto bills they waste." The fact that there are so many young folks eligible for" school who are taking up no. useful "studies while they are at the proper age is more the fault of indifferent parents than of anybody else perhaps. The need of an education is not recognized by many young people until they are past the usual school age and then they feel they are too old to enter school or are too cowardly to enter classes the pupils of which are much younger than themselves. The. parents are old enough . to know the advantage the man or woman wo-man has who has received a good education. edu-cation. The advantage is not only a matter of being better able to earn a living. It gives greater capacity for enjoyment and appreciation of everything every-thing about them. Knowledge is powor and it is also pleasure. The opportunity for school is yours now, young man, young woman. Will you have the nerve, the courage, the ambition, the good sense to grasp it? : n |
