On one occasion oc-casion a private soldier said to General Gen-eral Thomas: "General, I want to go home and see my wife." "How long is it since you have seen her?" asked the general. "Over three months." "Three month's," replied Thomas. "Why, I haven't seen my wife for three years." "That may be so," admitted the soldier, sol-dier, "but, you see, general, my wife and me ain't that sort."
