Show FARMERS WANT : AGENT The possibility of losing from this county the assistance of the County Agricultural Agent has stirred the farmers to action and a petition has been circulated among the officers of the local farm bureaus this . week requesting the County Commissioners Commission-ers to make the necessary appropriation appropri-ation for the maintenance of the office. of-fice. The county agents are paid by joint appropriations from county, state and national governing bodies. Their work has been of great assistance assist-ance to the several counties of Utah in procuring the adoption of scientific scien-tific methods in agriculture in all of its' various branches. The work in Eeaver county is well begun and the loss of the county agent at this time would mean the loss of much of the advancement already made. It would mean a backward step. The Farm Agent is the link which connects the local farmers directly with the U. S. Agricultural Dept. at Washington, D. C. ' Following is the petition which will be presented to the County Commissioners Com-missioners next Monday at the regular regu-lar October meeting of the Board: PETITION Beaver, Utah, October 1, 1917. To the Honorable Board of County Commissioners in and for Beaver County. Gentlemen: appreciating as we do the value received through the county agent oftice and realizing the increasing benefits that will be derived from it as the farmers and people of this county gain confidence in the great work ofour State Agricultural College Col-lege and the United States Department Depart-ment of Agriculture and especially up this time of need for increased farm products to feed the world, we, the Beaver County Farm Bureau directors, di-rectors, your petitioners, who represent repre-sent the farmers of the county, pray this honorable board of County Commissioners Com-missioners to continue to maintain (ho County Agent ollice in Beaver county. Believing it to be for the best interests in-terests of Beaver county to retain this ofilce and thereby promote a closer cooperation between this county coun-ty and the State Agricultural College and a more united system among the farmers and stockmen of this county, wo further recommend that this office of-fice be made a permanent office and that any changes made at any time should be based wholly on the merits of the person holding the position. We are aware of the fact that all the points in favor of this ollice have been put before your 'honorable body, hut if reports of work done are desired to convince the honorable Commissioners of the need of this ollice, upon their request, this will be forthcoming. But we can say that there has been work done each year of its existence that can be measured in dollars to amount to more tlian is paid out. by county, state and government gov-ernment for its maintenance. |
