Show 5000000 TONS COAL UTAH'S 1917 OUTPUT 'The statement issued at Salt Lake last week that Utah's output of coal " for 1917 was nearly 5,000,000 tons and that the 1918 output would be ; increased fully 1,000,000 tons more by the immediate development of. new coal mines in the State is attracting at-tracting wide attention in all localities locali-ties adjacent to Utah's famous coal fields. It 1b of particular interest in this immediate vicinity because of the close proximity of the great coal fields of the Colob Plateau, where the Iron County Coal Company is now arranging to open up a coal mine that is expected to prove one of the richest and most productive in the entire State. The announcement of prominent operators of the State last week that at least half a dozen more coal mines producing a high grade of Utah coal will be in operation in Utah within the next few months, serves to confirm con-firm the report of immediate activity activi-ty on the Iron County Coal Company's Com-pany's property two miles from Cedar Ce-dar City, where two tunnels have already al-ready been driven in along coal veins and disclosed deposits of the finest grade of domestic, steam, coking and blacksmithing coal. It has been definitely announced that the Iron County Coal Company has closed a contract with the Fred C. Richmond Machinery Company of-Salt of-Salt Lake for the immediate construction con-struction of a tramway running from the company's property down to within approximately half a. mile ot Cedar City. This tramway will cost $50,000 and officials of the Richmond Rich-mond Company state that materials ure already contracted for and work on the tramway is to be finished by Spring. Representatives for the company report that a heavy demand for the company's stock is developing throughout this entire territory adjacent ad-jacent to the company's holdings, and officials state that proceeds from 'he sale of stock will go Into the development de-velopment work, the purchase of machinery ma-chinery and other things necessary to the immediate development of the mine.
