The sale was purely a business event and buying was limited al-mo-t entirely to range operators who are producing beef cattle on a commercial basis for the Pacific coaM markets. Trices were in no way spectacular, yet there was no hesitancy on the part of range men t pay good prices for gwd, useful bulls that were of the type and conformation likely to build up the quality cf calf crops. Range cattlemen are faced with the necessity of meeting higher costs of commodities. On the other hand, there appears to be a limit to what cattlemen may expect to receive for their product. The only possible answer seems to 'be to continually strive to attain greater great-er efficiency in operation, improve quality, improve the percentage of calf crops. The use of good range bulls, bred for early maturity, rustling ability and prepotency provides one answer to. the problem. prob-lem. The other major answers rests in 'supplemental feeding- ana efficiency operations. After all, it' must be admitted -that the cattle business is no different than any other stable business over a period of years, the man who is able to consistently make a fair return on investment must i;'ive his attention to economical production cn a quality basis. Like all other businesses today, the livestock business is feeling the effects "of depressed conditions, condi-tions, brought about by a number of causes.
