Show Third in Ibeef cattle shipments to California is the state of Texas, with a total of 81,415 in 1938; fourth is Utah with 73,694; fifth is New Mexico with 66,453; sixth is Oregon with 54,974; seventh is Idaho with 51,235. Other states marketing a sizable number of (beef cattle in California include Colorado, Colo-rado, Montana, Washington, Wyoming, Wyo-ming, Kansas, Nebraska, Oklahoma Okla-homa and Old Mexico. A total of 753,914 cattle and calves were . shipped into California in 1938. These figures indicate the importance im-portance of the large population in California to producers in other western states. Incidentally, 1938 imports from other states ere smaller than in 1937, 1936, 1935 or 1934. Because of smaller numbers of ibeef cattle in California this year, it is likely that California will require larger imports of out-of-state cattle in 1939 than was the case last year. Thus the quotations on cattle prices emanating each market day from the Los Angeles Union Stock yards are of vital importance to producers in all of the other wesi ern states. TW . |
