Show .SituationJ Los Angeles Union Stock Yards, April 17 Arizona ships more than w three times as many cattle into California as any other western state. In 1938, Arizona marketed 307,825 cattle in California. The peak month was in November, when 80,575 cattle were shipped into California, An interesting feature of the Arizona cattle movement move-ment is that Arizona now markets cattle in California all through the year, due to the rapid development of cattle feeding in that state. Not so many years ago, Arizona was strictly a range cattle state and the movement out of the state was on a seasonal basis in the spring and fall, mostly in the fall. But the rich irrigated valleys are now producing great quantities of hay and grain, enabling cattlemen to fatten a large share of the cattle in feedlots. This development in cattle feeding has added greatly to the cash income of Arizona agriculture. Nevada stands second in the shipment of calotte to California markets, with a total of 88i,155 head in 1938. Nevada also has developed de-veloped cattle feeding in the irrigated irri-gated valleys, and a goodly share of the Nevada cattle production is now marketed as fat beef on California Cali-fornia markets. |
