Show Mosquito Scourge Discussed by Lions Reports of the special committee com-mittee appointed by the Milford Lions club to prepare a suitable float for the "Days of '49" parade on May 14, was presented at this week's Lions clulb luncheon, held Wednesday noon at the Union Pacific Pa-cific dining room. The report, submitted sub-mitted by Chairman C. L. Firmage, showed the float to have cost a total of $36.08 and this amount will be met by individual assessment assess-ment on "all members on a pro rata basis, in accordance with the original motion. The float was awarded first prize in the parade but it was voted at Wednesday's meeting to contribute the amount of the prize, said to toe $5, to the Junior league 'baseball team, to assist with the summer's activities. The hazards to health and general gen-eral discomfort to the people of Milford, brought about by the mosquito mos-quito scourge which has followed the release of surplus waters from the Rocky Ford reservoHr, came in for considerabe discussion by the club members and the secretary was directed to send to the state board of health a wire urging an early investigation of the situation and remedial measures to prevent a recurrence in the future. Though the release of water has temporarily tempor-arily been discontinued, due to the subsidance of high waters entering enter-ing the reservoir, the puddles of stagnant water left in the wake of our miniature lakes act as ideal breeding places for mosquuoes. o |
