Show School 'Motes FIRST GRADE Marilyn won the prize. She told a very good story. Her story was the best story. She won a painting set. Lysle English. We have new Baby Pony books to read. We like to read the Baby Pony books. Frank Jones. We have a new girl in our " room. Her name is Louise. She is Y.'arren's and Shirley Rae's cousin. Jean Norman. Frank brought a library book to scho( 1. Its name is Reading Time Stori .'S. Mar Jean Heslington. W.; drew a wash day picture. We like it. I had stockings, quilts, drcs: es and pants on the line. !! ward Bingham. I The Hearts are through with their first primer. The last story they read was "Dark Pony." 'Carl Christcnsen. J The school board came to see how the grade school was getting along. Reed Voorhees. We can stay after school and read books. Bobby Shell. We wrote a story about Washington. Wash-ington. Junior Welsh. SECOND GRADE We all have Indian names. Mrs. Bond put them on the board. We chose the names we wanted. We have all kinds of names, Blackface, Black-face, Chee-Wee, Rain in the Face, White Star, White Bird and Minnehaha. Min-nehaha. My name is White Star. Ann Marie Outzen. The grade school had a contest of speeches. The winner in the second grade was Rae Bond. The prize was a Micky Mouse painting set. Eugene Johnson. Today we reported on library books. We had to tell the names of the authors and the names of the books. Some of the students did not know the authors and had to sit down. Dorothy Campeau. I Jike George Washington because be-cause he was a good man. He helped the needy and the poor. When he was a little lad he cut down a cheery tree. Arthur Johnson. I like funny stories because they are interesting. So are Indian stories. I like them, too. Kathlyn Oleary. We had contests ;about Lincoln and Washington. Three ladies came to tell the winners. The winner win-ner got a Micky Mouse painting set. Donna Phillips. (When George was a lad, He chopped clown a cheery tree Belonging to his dad. Dick Rochek. THIRD GRADE We have a starfish in our room. It is shaped just like a star. It has five little arms and no head . Its eye are in the end of its arms. We have made up a poem about it. Betty Campeau. We had a contest. It was for the best talks on George Wash-1 Wash-1 ington and Abraham Lincoln, j Lenora Bowen won from our I room. She was given an Ever-sharp Ever-sharp pencil. Joann Mcintosh We had the school board visit us. They didn't stay very long. They went to every grade and to the high school. Raymond Fother-ingham. Fother-ingham. We are making a frieze. Betty is the chairman of the committee. George is drawing a steamer to put on it. Vernon is making a sailboat. Don made a raft and Shirley made a canoe. Charles made a floating log and Jimmy made a battleship and a galley slave. I made a canoe. Jack Stahl. FOURTH GRADE The women came to judge for the contest today . We had four people in ourj troomq that gave talks. They were Mary, Masuko, Lindsay and Genevieve. Maxine Carter. Miss Robinson brought us a picture of the first trains meeting meet-ing at Promontory summit and a story about it. We are studying about old Milford and it is fun. After a while we are going to study about modern Milford. We are also going to have a play. We are going to see if we can have it in the high school. If we can't we will have it in the grade school. Maurice Williams. Mr. Baker is teaching us a song. The name is "The Blacksmith". Black-smith". It is very good and I thing I can teach it. Patricia Pitchforth. Miss Robinson from Beaver saved us a piece about the first trains meeting at Promontory summit where the two engines touched. We were very happy because be-cause this is going to help us. Miss Coleman put it on the bul letin board eo every one who wants to can read it. Afton Eng- lish I We put on a play Friday. It was called "Grandmothers Scrap j Bag". Mary Hoke was the grandmother grand-mother and Masuko Imai was: Mary. Ann Christensen was in it too. Betty Davidson was Lucy. Mary Hoke. We had a contest today at 2 o'clock. This is not the first contest con-test we have had. We had one last year about this time. The people that tried out on the contest con-test were Mary Hoke, Lindsay Waddingham, Genevieve English and Masuko Imia. The winner was; I Ma?uko Imia. Lane Frazier. FIFTH GRADE We had a contest on Washington Washing-ton or Lincoln and I won a prize. I think it was very good of the American Legion Auxiliary to put on these things for the children. Five others also received a prize. Mine was a flash light. I think it is a very good prize don't you ? Wallace Mastros. We have been havng news items every Tuesday and Thursday. Thus far not many people have given them. We surely enjoy them and think they are very interesting. Harold Beard. We have been studying about Lincoln's and Washington's life. Ithas been so interesting that we enjoyed it very much. Mary Jane Kesler. SIXTH GRADE In our room we are studying about old England. Tihs subject is very interesting and we learn of many good characters. We like this work very much and hope we will be as great a help to our country as these old people were. Douglas Moore. Each year the American Legion Auxiliary puts on a program in honor of George Washington, our first president. They also choose ' the best speech in each room and give a prize to the winner. It is a fine way to develop sportsmanship sportsman-ship and also teaches them how to j five talks in public. Betty Denny! On Friday, February 21, we had an assembly at the high school. The Ladies Auxiliary gave prizes to the winner in each grade of the elementary school. Marilyn Carl-: son of the first grade, Rae Bond of the second, Lenora Bowen of the third, Masuko Imai of the fourth, Wallace Mastros of the fifth and Kathleen Fothcringham of the sixth, were the winners. They all gave very interesting talks. Besides the above the high school people gave some splendid |
