Show IMiford Hoopsters ! Lose To Beaver ! In Friday Game I Milford and Beaver high school hoop squads, traditional rivals j since the Beaver school succeeded the old Murdock academy, church I institution, tangled as league con-i con-i testants Friday night for the first time this season with the scrapping scrap-ping Milford Tigers coming out on the short end of a 25-13 score. With the Beaver players seemingly seem-ingly determined to play a deliberate delib-erate style of ball which would have become sadly monotonous to the huge crowd of fans present, the Milford players tried to in-I in-I ject some spirit into the contest i but their efforts proved their undoing un-doing and Beaver players were ! awarded nine free trials at the basket to three for Milford before the half was ended! Despite this and the fact that jump balls were called repeatedly to the detriment j of the Milford players, the ball was kept in Milford's scoring territory ter-ritory a large part of the first half and only their poor basket marksmanship prevented a much more creditable showing. As it was, by the end of the first half the morale of the Mlford team had ! been badly impaired and the out-! out-! come was a foregone conclusion I even though the Milford players j were able to play the Beaver j fellows on even terms in the last ! quarter, with six points each. ' Milford people in large numbers were present at the game in addi-ion addi-ion to more than a hundred high 1 school students, evincing in un- mistakable manner the new and j steadily growing school spirit and spirit of cooperation between the i school and the community, even though the basketball team has been a consistent loser except for the one victory over Hinckley, j A colorful feature of the Friday night meeting of the two schools j and one that won the respect and j admiration of Milford and Beaver fans alike, was a demonstration by the Milford girls pep group. ; Nattily dressed in red and white i costumes and to the accompani-! accompani-! ment of a group of Milford high ' school trumpeters, the girls exe-i exe-i cuted difficult march and "B" and "M" letter drills that were ob- ( Continued on last page) o Milford Loses Game (Continued from first page.) served with rapt attention and greeted with hearty applause. Stirring and well rendered selections selec-tions by the Beaver senior band group at various times during the evening also added materially to the agreeable features of the evening. eve-ning. 1 The Milford team draws another bye thos week-end but on Friday, March 6, the Beaver squad comes here for the final game of the high school hoop schedule. For that game Milford will be entitled entitl-ed to home town officials, with the calls likely to go to Dave and Mel Heslington, two of the outstanding out-standing officials of the Beaver-Millard Beaver-Millard division.
