Show Transatlantic Phones Transatlantic telephony was opened to the public in 1927 through co-operation between the American Telephone & Telegraph company and the British post office. Eastbound transatlantic messages are transmitted transmit-ted over the land lines of the American Ameri-can Telephone & Telegraph company compa-ny to Rocky Point, Long Island, N. Y., where a powerful radio transmitting trans-mitting station puts them on the air and sends them across the ocean. The message is picked up by the British post office receiving station at Cupar, Scotland, whence it is transmitted by overland telephone lines. |
