Show SIWMMING CLASSES TO EiGAGERED CROSS Life-saving and swimming campaigns cam-paigns in which children and adults will receive instruction in the art of swimming, that they may save themselves them-selves or rescue others from drown ing, will engage the attention of a number of Red Cross chapters in the Pacific area this summer. The importance of every individual individ-ual knowing how to swim is emphasized emphas-ized by Edwin H. Carroll, Red Cross director of First Aid and Life-Saving. As schools for the summer months and the lakes, river and sea beckon to vacationists, Red Cross leaders want all persons entering water anywhere any-where to be careful. Statistics show that approximately approximate-ly 1000 persons in the Pacific states lose their lives each year by drowning, drown-ing, while the annual toll throughout through-out the nation is close to 8000 lives. In all swimming campaigns conducted con-ducted by the Red Cross, experts act as instructors. They teach the beginners begin-ners and show experienced swimmer, how to improve their stroke. As swimmers become more pro ficient they are given instruction in life-saving that enables them to render ren-der service in any emergency. |
