Show LONG-EXPECTED ACTIVITY 1 IN MINES SEEMS IMMINENT Moscow Properties Await Coming of President to Get Work Underway i The gradual but persistent 1'ise in the price of silver and the surety that, with the rise in commodity prices there will be further increases increas-es in the priee of the white metal, can mean but one thing for the Mil ford section and that is the sure resumption re-sumption of mining: aetivites in this vicinity. And this belief fincfc substantiation sub-stantiation in the recently announced p'ans for reopening of the properties of the Moscow Silver Mines company, the stock of which has had such a phenomenal play on the Salt Lake mining exchange. The lines of the Telluride Power company leading to the Moscow properties prop-erties were badly wrecked during the recent pas: and several hundred dollars worth of transmission line stolen by some vandal, with the re.-ult that extensive repairs were necessary before work could be resumed. re-sumed. These repairs have now been made at the request of G. S. Wilkins, piesideiit and general manager of the company, and everything stands in readiness for renewal of activities, with Mr. Wilkins expected to arrive in Milford at any hour. The Moscow company owns approximately ap-proximately 500 acres in one contiguous contig-uous group in the Star district. All the claims are patented, with the exception ex-ception of nine claims and six of these are in the final stage of patent proceedings. The mine was closed down in 1931. Prior to the closing development work was being concentrated on the lower levels of the property where, according to Mr. Wilkins, several promising leads were encountered. Some ore w$- mined and shipped from these lea. Is down to a depth of 1,1100 feet. There are three main- working shafts on the property, the Moscow, a two compartment 1.G00 foot shaft; Beaver Combination, 200 feet, and Red Warrior, 500 feet, all of which are connected underground with five miles of workings. The property is fully equipped with double drum five horsepower motor; 633 cubic feet compressor and 100 horsepower motor. Up to the present time the mine luis produced 57,394.34 dry tons of ore,- which averaged $17.32, largely in silver and lead, per ton. Net smelter returns aggregate $1,195,324.67. |
