Show HIGH SCHOOL OPERA JILL BE - PRESENTED THIS FRIDAY NIGHT . "Lelawala," Indian ' operetta, by Charles Wakefield Cadman, is to be presented Friday evening at eight o'clock in the High School Auditorium by the senior high music department, which includes a mixed chorus of seventy sev-enty voices, a splendid cast of eighteen eigh-teen leading parts, an orchestral accompaniment ac-companiment of twelve pieces.. The ensemble is directed by Mr. Lorus Hand. The beautiful legend of Niagara, the "thunder waters" of the Indians provides the background for this play. During a famine, the Great Spirit, called for the sacrifice of a virgin and Necia volunteered. On a set day she drifted over Niagara falls in a white, flower decked canoe; the anger of the Great Spirit was appeased and the famine ended. Humor is furnished by Lord Tatler, an eccentric Englishman; Clarinda Bond, a romantic old maid; Wanyeca a squaw who makes love in grotesque fashion; and a squad of exceedingly awkward soldiers. 1 The opera is one of Cadman's latest and best. It has been produced before I -under the directorship of Mr. Hand and his previous experience with the opera has been a great help in making the present production a sure success. The cast includes: Wokomis (Great Heart) widower, chief of Oniahgah-rahs, Oniahgah-rahs, Klolowar (the singer) his son, Lelawala (falling waters) his daughter; daugh-ter; maid of Niagara, Marpeetopah (four skies) medicine man, Hintola (blue hair) grandmother of Lelawala, Sowanas (south wind) lover of Lelawala, Lela-wala, Shungelia (the fox) rejected lover of Lelawala, Wacootay (the shooter) an Oniahgarhrah brave, Wambebe (the Eagle) an Oniahgah-; Oniahgah-; rah brave, Wanyeca (the firefly) a romantic widow. Napanee (the brook) who loves Klolowar, Eagle Eye, a ' famous scout, Major Wallace, com-I com-I niandant of a fort, Mabel, his daugh-' daugh-' tor. Capt. Bliss, lover of Mabel, Clarinda Clar-inda Bond, who admires the Sergeant, Sergeant Bilks, who admires himself, Lord Tatler, who admires witticisms.
