Show CONSISTENCY CAN BE OVERDONE By REV. DR. ALVIN E. MAGARV (Presbyterian), Brooklyn. A mind that is entirely consistent would be as dull as dishwater. No doubt a pig is consistent. Ilis philosophy involves no discrepancies and his every act is a perfect expression of his conviction. That was the difference between the prodigal son, dreaming of home and heaven while he fed the bogs, and the hogs he fed. It is the curse of our modern life that it crushes down the glorious inconsistencies of human nature and tends to reduce us to the dull completeness and efficiency of machines. We are told that a man should be the same on ftronday, in the market place, as he is on Sunday, in the church. That, too, is nonsense. A man's life is like a diamond, with many facets. To reduce it to a single, plain 6urface, destroys its meaning and its beauty. |
