Show DEER INCREASING IN BEAVER MOUNTAINS State Game Warden R. L. Turpin, grazing inspector, O. A. Olson of the' Forest service, and Forest ranger ran-ger H. M. Christensen in charge of the Beaver district spent the past eight days going over the deer winter win-ter range on the Beaver district. Gus Easton local game warden spent three! days on the Beaver side. On account of the; deep crusted snow the deer had been driven .out of the higher ranges and are located in the low hills on the south west slopes where there is not so much snow. During the trip 4830 deer were counted. During the survey in 1931 only 2820 deer were counted. The deer are lower this year and not nearly so widely scattered making mak-ing it possible to secure a better count. The largest herd of deer 'counted was in the South Creek area ar-ea where 69 4 were counted in one herd, a total of 165 6 were counted in one day's ride. 1747 deer were counted on the Junction- Circleville side and 3083 were counted on the Beaver side. The deer are rapidly increasing as there were about 34 of the deer herd classified as fawns. |
