Show PANGUITCH PAPER STRONGLY ADVOCATES PROPOSED HOOK-UP ROAD WITH MILFORD WOULD HAVE TOWNS LINKED UP BY PERMANENT YEAR-AROUND . HIGHWAY EXCURSION CREATES INTEREST The excursion made two or three weeks ago by a group of Milford people, peo-ple, with the purpose of investigating the possibility of a new road over to Panguitch, together with a report on the trip by L. G. Clay, has struck a responsive chord in Panguitch. The only difference that there seems to be, as far as the opinions of Panguitch Pan-guitch and Milford people are concerned, con-cerned, lies in the selection of the route. The trip made by Mr. Clay and Fred Levi was over a course via the Buckskin Flats and down into Panguitch Pan-guitch canyon. If the editor of the Panguitch newspaper (The Garfield County News) correctly interprets the thought of interested Panguitch people, the proposed new road would run a little south of the route taken by the excursionists, and would run over Little Peak. The need for a road is thoroughly realized both in Beaver and Garfield counties. Panguitch people would make it a real highway while about it, and with that idea in view, W. J. Peters, the editor of the Panguitch newspaper, addresses a letter to the Milford News through the last issue of his paper. We take pleasure in reprinting Mr. Peters' article on the proposed new road: Dear Editor, News: We read with pleasure the article regarding the road over the Buckskin. Buck-skin. But, how about all of us getting get-ting together and get the Forest Service, Ser-vice, the Bureau of Roads and the State: of Utah with'us, go just a little further south on the Main Highway, and then come over Little Peak, which will give us a road that will serve all purposes. Such a road has been surveyed sur-veyed and we honestly believe that if the road is put there it will be a real honest-to-goodness Highway. It will serve the people of Milford and Beaver the same as the other way, and will give us people over here access ac-cess to two railroad stations, on the same road, and will give us a shorter outlet to Dixie, and the tourist travel a shorter cut to Zion from this side, and will not hurt the travel going to Beaver and Milford one bit. Such a road would be a Godsend to every person in Southern Utah. We are not trying to throw cold water on the Buckskin proposition in the least, but honestly believe that if we all used our united effort we could get this road via Little Creek, but do not see how we are going to get any help the other way. The methods me-thods of getting private funds for roads do not give us the graveled highways that we need today. What we need is one of the best roads in the country over that hill, and ono that can be traveled the year round, and not a road that is just passable. We, the people on this side of the hill, certainly would like to have a road of some kind so we can visit with our neighbors on the other side, both north and south, and hope the people over there will get with us and pull like the "devil beating tan bark," and we believe we can get just the kind of a road that will suit all, and be a blessing to everyone. Come on, fellows, let's have a big meeting from both sides of the hill and see if we cannot get together on one or the other roads, and get at it and have it finished this summer if possible, as it's going to be a long old winter, and durn hard sledding over that mountain. moun-tain. Come on, let's go. |
