Show 'MUMMIES UNEARTHED NEAR GUNNISON Two skeletons of mumified bodies were discovered in the Sanpitch River Riv-er bed a short distance south of the Gunnison Reservoir dam the early part of the week and may now be viewed at the guard's home below the dam. Much interest is being manifest in the discovery. The bodies had undoubtedly un-doubtedly been placed in a cave in one of the cliffs or high banks over the river and fallen into the river bed when the cliff gave way' during a storm. Who they were, to which people they belonged, and at what time they were buried is a mystery. On the man was a beaded pouch containing a few old-style lead slugs, The woman wo-man was dressed in several bright colored dresses. The discovery of these bodies suggests sug-gests both tragedy and romance. Manti Messinger. |
