Show o LUXURY TAX THE LATEST FAD Anything to "get the money" seems to be the all important thing with certain members of the Utah legislature. It matters mat-ters little who pays, the only question to be considered is "get the money." Not content with a tax on amusements, there must be a tax on chewing gum, chewing gum substitutes, perfume per-fume toilet waters, cosmetics, facto powder, hair dressing's, etc. The rate on chewing gum is one-half one-half cent per package and the rate on other articles is 10 per cent of the retail price, if a bill recently introduced in the house becomes a law. But of course, people can remain re-main at, home evenings and listen list-en to the radio instead of going to the movies occasionally, or I he dance hall or basketball games. What, right have people peo-ple to indulge in all these luxuries, luxur-ies, but, if they insist, penalize them and make them pay a tax, anything to got the money. Washington County News. o |
