Show NATURAL PHENOMENA Sunspots and their accompanying display of aurora borealis uro Just now very Interesting, ill that at the present there is on the sun a pair of spots which are the largest each for many years preceding, and which came on the meridian of the sun opposite op-posite to the earth on the 15th. Saturday night and Sunday morning morn-ing there was a most beautiful display dis-play of the, "northern lights" or aurora borealis that it has been our pleasure to see in many years. As Ben and Mrs. Douglas came away from the store about nine p. m., lights were shooting across the sky in. diverse directions, faintly like dimmed searchlight flashes; oven the southern homisp'here was lit up. These flashes at times met In the zenith; at times shot across the sky; at the north a fan-shaped brilliancy held there for- hours, with rays extending ex-tending and dying, with some color at times. A bank of clouds to the north obscured the full effect. But, even at that, it was by far the most brilliant display of this phenomena we have seen in many years. Once before here, coming from Heise's at about three o'clock in the morning (BOber!) we observed, when on the sandhill, a wonderful colored display In the sky, and our auto party stayed for over a half hour watching It, enthralled by the beauty of the display. Again in the high altitude of Wyoming we have Been these wonders; but for white light effect none have surpassed this display dis-play of Saturday night. The Bunspots are rapidly changing, betokening a fierce turmoil In the innards in-nards of Old Sol, bo that he breaks out In these pimple blotches, and lie. being upset, upsets as well our terrestrial ter-restrial magnetism. The ed. thought the world was coming to an end Saturday night when this thing started, and said his prayers the first time since childhood's child-hood's Innocence. Nor was he alone; , a regular chant rent the air up and down Iniquity Avenue as others fell to knee. |
