Show Mrs. M. M. Steele, Jr., returned return-ed the last of the week from Panguich where she has been visiting for some time past. A Salt Lake grocer displays a sign, "We Roast Our Own Coffee." Cof-fee." The other day somebody hung underneath it a home-made sign, "I Don't Blame You.' The Princess Amusement Co. have secured for tonight the great civil war play, Uncle Tom's Cabin. The play will be shown in Hinckley Friday night, Des-eret Des-eret Saturday night and Lynndyl Sunday night. T. C. Callister, of Fillmore, manager of the Millard County Telephone and Telegraph Co., was in town Thursday and Friday Fri-day of last week looking after matters in connection with the company's affairs. The bible inspired the saying: "Id' rather be a live coward than a dead hero," in its quotation from Solomon which had. him say, "A living dog is better than a dead lion." (Ecclesiastes 9-4). Joseph Damron of Deseret was a Delta visiter Monday and called at the Chronicle and set his subscription ahead 18 months. Mr. Damron reports things around Deseret looking good and fair prospects for an alfalfa seed crop. At a meeting of the Town Board last Saturday evening action ac-tion was taken whereby a great deal of new paving will be put down this fall, twenty-two blocks in all, will be paved- Clark street running east will be paved to its teminus and walks will be extended in the residence dis-tric dis-tric south and west of the Hall, also to the park grounds, etc. Other paving is contemplated on and may be ordered later. Notice, No-tice, showing exact location of districts to be paved will be in the Chronicle next week. Attorney J. Alex. Melville was here the last of last week and went to Salt Lake Saturday night to attend to business matters. mat-ters. Mr. Melville, who spent the past ten days with Mrs. Melville Mel-ville at the San Francisco exposition, expo-sition, had just returned. He said that the exhibits are very nice. While touring the city he and Mrs. Melville met with an accident which resulted luckily for them to what it might have been. The steering wheel of the sightseeing ar broke and the car ran wild. Mr. Milville jumped jump-ed as did a number of others and Mrs. Melville was just getting get-ting ready to jump from the car as it struck a tree and she was thrown ont bruising her up considerable. |
