Show DAIRY COWS IN BIG DEMAND Settlement of Irrigated Land by Small Farmer increase Interest in Dairying Industry. With the settlement of the semi-arid semi-arid and irrigated lnnds of the west by small farmers tho markets for dairy products have grown Into attractive prominence, says the Denver" Field and Farm. Hut the dairy cows are not here In numbers sufllclent to furnish fur-nish an adequate supply for commercial commer-cial needs. Cood grade dairy cowij command $C0 easily In sections where they are scarce. If farmers will not pay the price Ihey are compelled either to be content with old discarded discard-ed cows or else resort to the slow process of breeding. The thousands of dairy bull calves that troop to market every spring Include hundreds of well bred ones that might furnish a welcome acquisition to the foundation stock of our western settler whose beef bred heifers from range bred cows are not the best material for establishing es-tablishing dairy herds. It is certain that those Inclined to dairying will find favorablo markets In many of our new western communities and the cost of founding suitable herds would be greatly lowered If they breed their own heifers. |
