Show Coyote Attacks Child i A three year old child of Wm. ; Hanson, a rancher living near i Lucin, in Boxelder county, was f bitten by a coyote last Monday, : and has been taken to Salt Lake i for treatment. The Pasteur i treatment will be used and this - takes about three weeks with a t daily treatment. The serum is - furnished free upon application ) to the United States health service, ser-vice, but is not kept on hand as ' it must be fresh when used. Dr. Beatty, Sec. of the State 3 Board of Health, says that "unless "un-less every precaution is taken, in , sections where rabies is known to exist, we can only expect that t the disease will spread until it t readies all parts of the state, ; and endanger many human lives, as well as doing damage to cat- tie, and other domestic animals." ani-mals." Nevada and Idaho have already suffered much loss through this disease, and Utah will not be more fortunate if the people do not soon awake to the gravity of the situation. The j ease of the little Hanson girl is ? the first case reported in Utah : where a human being has been 1 bitten, although numerous, pre-1 pre-1 sumably, rabid coyotes have been , reported killed. t Since writing the above, e another case has been reported, s this time of an 8 year old child i in the same county. The s-itua-e tion is becoming very serious, 3 and must be recognized as such, , and handled accordingly. Both children are being giver the Pasteur treatment, but it is yet too early to predict the results. |
